How long did it take you to hit $100k? Are you comfy?

I'm looking at my outlook for the next 6 years or so and think i can hit $100k in my industry if i job hop a couple times. If I'm gonna wageslave, might as well strive for higher.

Only thing is, $100k doesn't seem like much. It's only $5400/month net. I'm not a luxury spender, but moreso want to invest and retire asap. I feel like $150k would be perfect between comfy living and retirementmaxxing. That's a little over $8k/month.

The biggest expense would be mortgage. The lower I keep that, the more money I'd have leftover.

Real tea: 3 years after graduating, but I got really lucky because I started a business that did alright for about a decade.

Not including that income, and career only, it took me about 10 years to reach that level, and I'm a fooking software engineer.

As far as comfort, it really depends on if you're single or not.

100k is not what it used to be. I don't make much more than that now, and with a mortgage and kids, it goes very fast. I'm still comfortable. I just don't buy the luxuries like I did when single.

              2017 - part time job, still a student, $10/hr
2018 - full time job, $60k/yr (later in the year I upgraded to $66k)
              2019 - full time job, $70k/yr (new company) + overtime = $85k
              2020 - full time job, $77k/yr + overtime = $100k

3 years. Or 12 years depending on how you look at it.

I've been working full time since I was 16 or a bit before that, depends on how you count it.

From 16 to 25 I worked all kinds of jobs, never made more than about $42k.

Got my shit together at 25, took a pay cut to go into IT, started at $12 or so, hit $100k (with overtime) a few months before turning 29.

That may be true but statistics still do not support the vast majority of miscers being in that range.

100k is nothing when you live in a big city (srs)

But yes, it's comfy I don't need to ask a friend to borrow $200 and I can buy all the hookers and pepsi that I want

i done spent yrs lookin at tons of regular ppls incomes n credit reports on tha daily 4 work. seent shitloads of ppl makin ~100k for regular ass shit like nursing n unionized trades cuz of overtime pay. Theres a hard ceiling at like 140-150k tho and 200k+ is rare as fuck outside of exclusive professions n c-level execs.

niggas online talkin big n claimin 200k most likely larpin but at tha same time u prob got a couple niggas livin on ur block pullin 100k n living check 2 check cuz they debtmaxxed af

dis wealth disparity shit gettin real weird wit these artificially inflated markets n wage stagnation

A little over 12 years after I graduated college, but I wasn't sure I'd ever make $100k with a BA in English. I make about $160k now and my wife makes $60k. We are pretty comfy. Live within our means and our only debt is our mortgage.

About 5 years in tech. It was decent for 2018-2019, but now I make around 150k and feel like it's barely more than 100k back then due to inflation. Def comfortable as a single guy though for sure.

my take home after taxes is just under 6K a month, and I live comfortably , but I don't feel like I'm making that much money. Will soon be making a bit closer to 7k a month and we'll see if it's drastically any different.

In a couple years I intend to be making over 10k a month before taxes atleast.

Within 3 years of graduating law school I was over 100k, and that was quite some time ago...

I've had an absolute windfall of a year, but I've saved/invested most of it or else could be living super lavishly.

Took me 14 years post bachelors Jfl @ me.

edit: kinda comfy ish. After mortgage and utilities, I typically have about 2500$ left over a month.
$2500/ leftover after bill and retirement/health insurance? You must be married. You're doing great IMO

I want to be in position where I have at least $1500/month leftover. Ideally $2k
