I rent houses to traveling refinery workers. There is a group of guys from Louisiana that come here several times a year. One guy is about 6'6" with long blond hair. He looks like a Viking. One time he showed up with a black eye and a broken jaw.

If you rob someplace like a bank, casino or retail store they will come after you at some point and give you serious time.

If you do white collar theft the cops are pretty lazy and stupid. I had a guy I turned in with a hard drive of documented theft(from me), he made himself of the theft, where he stole $300k+. The cops wasted their time for a year then dismissed it because they didn't want to try the case. The guy had a lawyer and wanted to plead out and they never tried him. I turned in another guy for almost $3m in tax fraud(he was a dick) The cops don't really care about white collar crime unless you are on tv like Martha Stewart or Enron. Even then Enron got turned in like 4 times with proof before they were charged.

Even if you get caught and convicted white collar crime for first time offenders is light and in some cupcake prison.

Armed robbery, that's not fun stuff.
