With the combination of Boomers fucking off into irrelevance and American consumerism, we're starting to see a rise in Halloween in Australia, and I love to see it. I can only imagine how much fun it would've been being a kid in the 90's.

                        Movies watched:

10/1: The Hook of Woodland Heights (1990)

-A fun little 40 minute short film. A couple good practical effects. (5.5/10)

10/2: Footprints on the Moon (1975)

-Less a horror film and more of a mystery, and a beautifully shot one at that. Not the gore-fest that stylizes or glorifies murder as you might expect of an Italian film of this era. But there is enough mystery to hold the attention and more than a touch of the surreal. (6.8/10)

A friend of mine is watching Lady Frankenstein (1971) tonight. Have you seen it? I'm getting ready to go to bed so I just skimmed some information about it since I'm going to bed shortly. I think it only had 20% on rotten tomatoes. Also, it's italian? I'm guessing they speak English in it though.

Its alright, worth watching for Rosalba Neri as Dr. Frankenstein's daughter...Its in English. The main problem is finding a version thats good enough quality to watch.

Are you just looking for the more mainstream franchises like Nightmare on Elm Street, or are you looking for something in particular?

If you want real OG shit you could add in the Universal monster movies, but that might not appeal of younger people.

You could begin to explore Italian horror if you haven't already...The films of Lucio Fulci and Dario Argento to start.

Many people love the Phantasm franchise which is a tiny bit lesser known.

We can get pretty obscure, but obscure film are often obscure because they stray from the common audience's taste. Ultimately you have to be willing to watch films you end up hating to find the weird stuff you like.

For those interested, here is Lucio Fulci's City of the Living Dead (1980). Its the first of the so-called Gates of Hell Trilogy.

                                        10/3: Lemora: A Child's Tale of the Supernatural (1973)

This is a creepy and perverted movie about a teenage girl beset on all sides by men and monsters who want to kill her, rape her or claim her soul. Its a good looking and unsettling, fairy tale-ish film, and I would call it a hidden gem of the 70's.

                                        trailer:

                                        full movie
A young girl who returns to her hometown to see her dying father finds herself being drawn into a web of vampirism and witchcraft.

Lots of Fulci's movies are availabe on different streaming platforms so you necessarily stuck with watching his stuff on youtube with a ton of ads.

Do you not use an ad blocker? I don't usually see youtube ads on my android or computer. I'm just mentioning it in case you weren't aware of the available blocking methods.

Yes I have ublock on my computer so I have no ads on anything when I'm on it. But my TV does have ads when watching movies which is what I watch the majority of my movies on. I just can't watch movies on my computer often, it hurts my eyes for some reason.

Yeah, same for me. I just don't get a whole lot of time with the actual TV because I only have two TVs but I also have a lot of kids so they dominate the TVs.

I work some weekends and have caught a few movies on my phone. Not ideal, but it's nice when I have the downtime to be able to do that anyway.

Yeah, it better than nothing. I had to spend a lot of time away from my house last year and watch a lot of old TV shows from my phone on Tubi. I don't mind watching TV shows as much on my phone because the cinematography is less important and you're not missing as much with a smaller screen.

This is a Polish film about a vampire who incidentally looks exactly like Debbie Harry that goes to a psychiatrist because she wants to become human. The main actress was the highlight of this decent vampiric character study.

                                                            trailer:
